Just installed this rack on my wife's Ford Expedition to be used during our thanksgiving trip. Thought I would write a review to help others in their installation. First of all it is helpful to keep reminding yourself during assembly and installation that this is the least expensive rack of its kind found on Amazon. The instructions are poorly written but you figure it out what u see needs to be done. The short bolts are for joining the two halves together. The long bolts are to attach the windshield in front. No instructions for a the windshield. There are two sizes of ring clamps to attach the shield to the rack. The smaller three go on the top bar flat edge out, larger ones on the bottom. Hardware goes like this: bolt easier through sheil, spacer then bolt through ring clamp to the nut. A drawing would have been nice. The clamps that hold the rack to your vehicles cargo bars are actually quite clever. Unfortunately the nuts to hold the clamp together attach from underneath the rack and there's very little room for man hands. Save yourself a lot of trouble and only remove one nut from the clamp for install. Loosen the other nut enough to free the clamp bar. That way u only have to get one not started. The nuts insert into a clever plastic thumb driver to make it easier to tighten the clamp. However the nut doesn't fit tight into the thumb driver so keeps falling out when u try to thread the nut on the bolt. Push the plastic nut driver up the bolt and start the nut on the bolt directly by hand. Loosen the nut on the other side to allow more room to do this. Then use the plastic thumb driver to tighten. Cursed a lot till I figured this out. All in all a decent rack for the money. Looks nice on the Expedition - my wife agreed. Powder coating is nice, dull gray black not shiny. Good value for the money but I don't think it would look good for long if u left it installed. This does work, and once together I can assure you it is very tough. The cons though:-the side plates didn't fit in, at all! I even bent them with pliers and they simply wouldn't fit!-The screw holes in the middle where you join the 2 pieces that form the main rack, aren't aligned properly! I had to really hold the rack down while I forced the screws in. On one of them I just had to muscle through it and use the bolt to cut new threads!- the paint chips off pretty easily. If this was going to be in the rain at all I wouldn't trust it, at least not without spraying more paint over the places where it chipped off- the 4 mounts that hold this to a roof rack are OK. one of them for me whoever put this in the package didn't care! the nut was cross threaded on the U bolt. I had to use a wrench to get the nut of, and pliers to tighten it back on (even with oil!)- the instructions aren't super clear (there's 2 types of brackets for the front wind shield). wasn't a huge issue, just slightly annoyingOverall you're paying dirt cheap for what you are getting. Am I satisfied? yes! don't expect premium brand qualityUse it to haul reptile supplies works greatNothing went right when assembling this item, directions were horrible. After assembling the rack by using another Amazon customers review/ directions. I attempted to snap in the brackets that are used to sit on the crossbars, I noticed that they didn’t click in they just sat there or they would slide up and down between the bars. I had a trip to go on, so I needed the roof rack. While I attempted to attach it to my roof and that is when I realized that the bars at the back half of the rack were all crooked. With the crossbars all being crooked they were rack wouldn’t lie properly on my crossbars and it was also the reason the brackets wouldn’t snap into the spaces between the bars. I disassembled the rack and shipped it off for return. I purchased a new rack from a local store and that worked out great for my trip…Good for your extra baggage but leaks if you don’t seal it with anythingThis was a return item purchaced at a discount. Basket was straight, did have cosmetic damage as discribed, and was expected. However there was propriatory hardware missing, which should have been accounted for by Amazon or at least expressed in the desciption. Having to purchase and replace this hardware made the discount not so great!Once touched up, and installed unit works well.Worked just fine for me. I did spray a couple coats of black paint on it before installing thoughInstructions are wack. I used 3M under coating to cover scuffs from shipping. I used plasti dip on the brackets and rust proof paint on the Allen screws. On my 4runner there is space left to go longer than this one, picked this option because of sunroof and roof light bar. 4 stars due to scuffs and my instructions were a copy of a copy of a copy. No instructions to install fairing. Used my noodle and got it done. The fairing clips are plastic, so be careful tightening them! Will update once we got good use of it.Functional wise, does the job,Was really really careful not to bump anything to cause scratching to avoid rusting, but here is a few pictures a year after install. This rack has only been used 2x (this summer) and with a cargo bag in side to keep everything dry. (Rack was purchased to keep everything off my sun roof)it will do the job but over all very cheap black coating was already chiped off all over doesnt go together ez screw holes dont like up but hey u get what u pay for i guessThe company excepted my request for RETURN knowing full well it would be too costly to process. CAUTION: - BEWARE when buying anything from XHT MOTOR (CANADA)Really hard to assemble, item seems like the bars are not straight enough to fit together... Had to hit on it with an hammer and lubricate the bars to get the two main pieces to clip. Also, the clamps don't fit on my Yakima round-shaped bars... really disappointed of this product. This started to rust immediately. I mean after the first rain type-thing. So if have an older vehicle and don't care what it looks like this will do the trick.
